Tom has taken on two new film roles!
"One Day" has recently wrapped shooting with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Tom plays Callum in the romantic comedy, due out in Fall of 2011. The film, based on the best selling novel, is directed by Lone Scherfig. According to Ropes of Silicon:
"The film is an adaptation of David Nicholls's novel revolving around Dexter (Sturgess) and Emma (Hathaway), who meet for the first time during their graduation in 1988 and proceed to meet on July 15, or St. Swithin's Day, every year for 20 years. The story tracks their lives and loves until they realize they are meant for each other."
"Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" is also based on a best selling novel and is directed by Lasse Hallstrom. In it, Tom plays a soldier named Robert and is currently shooting in Morocco. Other members of the cast include Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristen Scott Thomas. Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) is credited with writing the script. A synopsis of the story from HeyUGuys:
"Romantic fable Salmon Fishing In The Yemen follows government scientist Dr Alfred Jones (McGregor), as a fly fishing-obsessed Sheikh (Amr Waked) tasks him with a seemingly impossible task – introducing salmon to the wadis of the Yemen. With the British government desperate for a good news story in the area, the Prime Minister’s fearsome spokesperson, Patricia Maxwell (Kristin Scott Thomas), seizes on the idea and makes Fred responsible for the success of the project. Finally won over by the charismatic Sheikh, Fred also begins to fall for his representative Harriet (Emily Blunt). Casting off his deep-set cynicism, Fred rises to the Sheikh’s eccentric challenge, to go on a journey of self discovery and late-blooming love."
The release date looks to be in 2012 (how will we wait that long!!).
