A group of very appreciative fans got to screen the first episode of Watchmen last Friday at New York Comic Con, yours truly included. The room was filled to capacity, and gave an extremely enthusiastic ovation to the show and to the panel of folks from the show who chatted about it afterwards. Damon Lindelof, director/EP Nicole Kassell and cast members Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Louis Gossett Jr., and Hong Chau were on hand to answer questions about how they all were cast in their roles and what relationship, if any, they all had to the source material. Co-Creator of the original graphic novel, Dave Gibbons, also made an appearance, putting his seal of approval on the show.

Watchmen's presence was very much felt throughout the Con, with billboards outside the venue, a Watchmen lounge in which weary Con attendees could rest, charge their devices and be surrounded by Watchmen branding, an after party where signature drinks were served, a DJ did their thing on top of a Night Owl ship replica and Watchmen Swatches were the swag for departing guests, and even signs for the restroom were branded with the Watchmen squid.

No spoilers here about the show, but Tom was certainly in it in a pretty surprising way. Let's just say his scenes generated more questions than answers, and it's going to be a lot of fun getting to the bottom of it all.

Watchmen premieres on HBO on Sunday, October 20th at 9pm.
