Sleepy Hollow Schedule Changes to Allow Two Hour Finale

Fox announced today that they would be combining Sleepy Hollow's last two episodes of the season into a two hour finale, to air on January 20th, from 8-10pm.  The original schedule called for new episodes on January 6, 13 and 20 - but now the January 6th episode will be a repeat, to allow for the 2 hour big finale.  The schedule change will also affect the premiere of the second season of The Following. From the Fox release:

Hit drama SLEEPY HOLLOW will culminate its must-be-seen-to-be-believed first season with a special two-hour season finale event Monday, Jan. 20 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, changing the second season premiere of last season’s No. 1 new series, THE FOLLOWING. The acclaimed thriller starring Kevin Bacon will unveil a special preview Sunday, Jan. 19, immediately after the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME (live, 6:00 PM-CC ET), kicking off 15 heart-pounding weeks of uninterrupted episodes. The season premiere of THE FOLLOWING will now air Monday, Jan. 27 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following an encore of the Season Two preview (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

In the first hour of the two-hour SLEEPY HOLLOW season finale event, “The Indispensable Man,” airing Monday, Jan. 20 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) discover a massive secret buried within the pages of George Washington’s Bible and unearth the shocking true nature of the founding father’s death. Meanwhile, Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) makes a near-impossible decision for the sake of his beloved family that drastically changes his future. Then, in “Bad Blood” (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), the battle between good and evil comes to an explosive head – sacrifices must be made, worlds collide, loyalties are tested and the town of Sleepy Hollow will never be the same – resulting in a haunting first season finale.

TV Guide Spread "Hollow Ground"

TV Guide charged Orlando Jones with getting some behind the scenes scoop from the Sleepy Hollow set, and the resulting spread is featured in the new issue, out today.  He had some really nice things to say about Tom:

"Ichabod is really charming, but Tom himself makes Hugh Grant seem like a big grump," Jones gushes about his British costar, who spends 90 minutes each morning just getting his wig fitted. "It's almost impossible not to fall in love with him."

Almost?

Sleepy Hollow Makes Adweek's Hot List and More

Adweek has announced their 2013 Hot List winners and Sleepy Hollow has been named Best Newcomer Drama!

It may not benefit from an overblown lead-in or a superheroic brand halo, but Fox’s riotously fun genre mashup has quietly established itself as the season’s most unambiguously successful new series. Through Week 7, Sleepy Hollow was the No. 3 new series on the tube, averaging 8.22 million viewers and a 2.9 in the 18-49 demo—off two-tenths of a point from NBC’s The Blacklist and a tenth off the pace set by ABC’s pricey Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. That Sleepy has nearly trebled Fox’s ratings in the Monday 9 p.m. time slot without the intercession of a blockbuster like The Voice or a cameo from Thor goes a long way toward explaining why Fox made it the first freshman series to earn a renewal.

Others are also recognizing what Sleepy Hollow has accomplished in its first season.  In an article entitled "What Every TV Show Can Learn From Sleepy Hollow," Laura Prudom writes about how the show has dealt with race, gender, self aware humor and used social media, making smart decisions on all those fronts to make it the success it has become:

Sleepy Hollow's independent success is testament to the power of its unique blend of horror, humor, escapism, and mystery, which has been augmented by a uniformly excellent cast and breakneck, twist-laden storytelling. So far, it's also the only freshman show to have been renewed for a second season.

How did it happen? Sleepy Hollow's assets are numerous, yet each one is comparatively hard to find on network TV (and, in many cases on cable).

Glamour has been on the Sleepy Hollow (and Tom) bandwagon for a while - in this article, they give Nicole Beharie and her portrayal of Abbie Mills their due:

Dreamboat to end all dreamboats Tom Mison gets to yuk it up about bottled water and tech innovations, but Nicole has the odds stacked high against her when it comes to making us laugh. And yet, I find myself giggling at something she says almost every episode: "It's a little early in the morning for constitutional debate. Have a doughnut." She's basically that cool, blade-sharp friend you stand behind, worshipping her zingers and thanking the heavens above that she welcomed you into her clique. I mean, how can you not want to be/be friends with someone who, in accepting her ex's coffee invitation, smoothly adds, "Temper expectations."

Tom and Nicole did a little analysis themselves of what makes the show so successful, in this audio clip:
